Born in the coromandel, I came to Tauranga in 2015. I started my creative career ever since I learned how to hold a pencil. What I have drawn has been vastly varied. With pop culture, classical literature/sculpture, fantasy and now horror being incorporated into my art. I’ve always loved horror and gothic work to express intense emotions like grief, anger or sadness. Because to me, you don’t have to be good at art to create horrific representations of issues or emotion.
Junji Ito’s famous works of body horror, the ancient sculptures of Kritios boy, and the great paintings of the renaissance such as those by Artemisia Gentileschi or Goya have always fascinated me. So, now I try to incorporate aspects from those genres of art into my own, especially when I want to display intense emotions in my work. Now, while I study towards a degree in law, I still aim to have art in my life and continue to draw digitally for as long as I can hold a pen or work a tablet.
