I’m Sam Allen, a multidisciplinary artist, currently exploring the theme of technological hegemony and how our perceived reliance on a handful of tech companies has led to the undervaluing of the best parts of being human; connection, creation and expression.
My artwork for PIXelated highlights my reluctance to engage in digital spaces due to tech companies continually asking, what can we do? instead of what should we do? From my point of view this trend has led the culture astray to a place where we devalue the effort of humans because we think technology can create things cheaper and faster. When in reality all the capabilities of technology are built on top of the labour of millions of people and exploited for the benefit of a select few.
